The seat of confidence
Confidence is a funny thing, sometimes we have it and sometimes we don't. Why is that?
Essentially confidence is about believing in who are and what you to do. If you are not doing what you are good at enough, then you stop believing in yourself.
A past client contacted me the other day, a partner at a boutique law firm who was very good at her job. She had been on maternity leave for the last year having a baby, followed by an her own operation and the sickness of both the baby and her partner. The adjustment to family life had been difficult and she felt very uncertain about how she would handle the cultural disapproval of part time working when she returned to work.
She was struggling with the internal conflict of being a mother and having high standards at work as well as the external pressure of certain partners (including women) going into automatic disapproval mode whenever the 'P' word was mentioned. She was confused and overwhelmed.
Reconnecting with her brand
What shifted the conversation was her reconnection with her Intuitive Personal Brand created by an exercise she had done with me previously, where she had chosen images that she was drawn to. (see the video above). She was: A natural connector with a strong family foundation, loving new experiences and bringing an ordered approach to things. We considered how she naturally brought pragmatism and common sense to what was otherwise a rather narrow and unforgiving environment, and the vital role she played in helping her group make efficient strategic decisions. That done, she reconnected with how valued her contribution actually was and remembered colleagues telling her how much they longed for her return so they could move forward with less friction and bad feeling. When she re-inhabited who she was, the impending return wasn’t so daunting after all.
